Located in the center of Nagano Prefecture, Asama Onsen is a great hot spring area with lots of natural scenery. Just 25 minutes by bus or 15 minutes by taxi from central Matsumoto. Walk around the castle town and visit Matsumoto Castle with ease. Matsumoto is a great starting point thanks to its easy reach of Kamikochi, Norikura Plateau, and Utsukushigahara Plateau which are popular tourist, climbing, and hiking spots in Nagano Prefecture (Shinshu region).
