Hakuishi is a gold foil manufacturer located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The company makes not only foil itself, but also manufactures and sells arts and crafts, sundries, stationery, cosmetics, interior goods, soft ice cream, and the internal and external facades of buildings. Originally only a limited run of 1000 Gold Leaf Ice Creams was made to commemorate the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen (北陸新幹線). Despite being released in a limited amount it exploded in popularity when featured on three different national broadcasters and became a local part of the Kanazawa culinary scene.
