The Higashi Hazu coast is famous as a clamming spot. Offshore is an uninhabited island called Maejima, which is usually separated from the island by the sea, but for a few hours at low tide, a tombolo appears connecting the land and the island, allowing visitors to walk across to Maejima.

To protect the fishing grounds, there is a fee to enter the tombolo area. Tickets can be purchased at the Shiohigari Reception Hut on Higashi Hazu Beach (only during the Tombolo Walk event) or the Higashi Hazu Fishery Cooperative Association.
