Experience Daily Life at a World Heritage Site and Stay the Night
Just a 5-minute walk up the river from the thatched roof village in Gokayama and you'll come upon a plateau where you can get a great view of the people and their homes below. There's an old house that's now a museum, you can watch traditional craftpeople making their wares, including traditional Japanese paper (washi). You can also watch videos of Gokayama folk songs being performed. You can try your hand at making Japanese paper or enjoy a cup of tea. There are thatched roof houses that you can spend the night in too.
