A Symbol of Tateyama and Japan's Highest Altitude Hot Spring
Located at the peak of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Mikuriga Pond is a beautiful place to visit. 15 meters-deep and 631 meters-round, this large pond, which reflects the surrounding mountains beautifully, is more lake-sized that its name lets on. Open to visitors from July through October, the area is usually covered in snow. There are many beautiful flowers to be seen along with Rock ptarmigans—which are said to be as old as the last ice age. Nearby you'll also find Japan's highest altitude hot spring.
