The Largest Buddhist Building in Eastern Japan

Designated as a national treasure, Zenkouji has become a popular destination for foreign visitors. An interesting feature of the temple is the basement, where visitors are able to wander the pitch black halls, where they can touch a Buddhist relic before looping back to the exit. The temple is also home to Japan's oldest Buddhist statue that's only publicly displayed for one spring every seven years, but when it is, draws close to six million visitors.
