Surrounded by ocean, the dune-speckled coastline of Omaezaki Cape makes up the southernmost tip of Shizuoka Prefecture.
Built in 1874, Omaezaki's lighthouse is considered one of Japan's top 50 lighthouses, and is certified as a A-grade lighthouse for its historical and cultural value. The lighthouse is lit up from sunset to 10:00 PM, and its 17-meter high observation deck boasts a spectacular panoramic view. The surrounding area contains a promenade from which you can enjoy a view of the sun setting over the ocean, a shellfish harvesting beach, a seafood market, hotels, and many smaller traditional inns well-known for their cooking.
