A National Treasure and a Toilet God
Built over 400 years ago during the Edo Period, Zuiryuji Temple in Takaoka exists as it was in those days even now. The lawns inside the temple grounds are lovely and are lit up throughout the year. The temple was designated as a national treasure for the paintings on the ceiling of the main structure. The temple is also quite famous for its high-quality Buddhist statue which serves as a spiritual protector of toilets due to the belief long ago that toilets where a gateway for vengeful spirits.
