The Takayama Festival Yatai Kaikan is the only facility with a permanent display of the floats of the Takayama Festival.

The Takayama Festival is held twice a year, in the spring (April 14 and 15) and the fall (October 9 and 10). The shrines and food stalls for each festival change depending on the season. The spring festival is at Hie Shrine, and the fall festival is at Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. The yatai on display at the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan next to the Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine are the floats used in fall.

The floats are changed three times a year, in late March, late July, and mid-November.
