It is the largest rice terrace in Japan, boasting a total of 1340 rice paddies, and is renowned for its unparalleled beauty. Every year from June to July, a traditional event known as Mushi Okuri is held, to exterminate harmful insects with torches as a prayer for a good harvest. During the event, approximately 1300 torches are lit and the rice paddies are aglow, creating a mesmerizing and otherworldly ambiance.
