Introduction

Tokoname is blessed with a cultural climate nurtured by Tokoname pottery tradition with a history of 1,000 years, a 15 kilometer-long coastline from north to south facing Ise Bay, and abundant agricultural products and other tourist resources. Also, the Chubu Centrair International Airport opened in February 2005, and the Aichi International Exhibition Center AICHI SKY EXPO opened in August 2019, attracting visitors from all over the world.

    Pottery Village

    Yakimono-sanpodo or the pottery trail refers to the area of the most prosperous ceramic villages in the early Showa (1926-1989) period. Tokoname pottery is produced from one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, which is recognized as Japan Heritage. Even today, pottery chimneys, kilns, and factories remain. Many artists and craftspeople are working in the area and it has a wonderful atmosphere.

    Tokoname City is said to be the largest producer of Maneki-neko in Japan. Manekineko can be seen everywhere in the city, including a giant one that is 6.3 meters wide and 3.8 meters high. Be sure to visit Tokoname Manekineko Street.

    In Tokoname, beaches with stunning sunsets, such as Ohno Beach and Rinku Beach, are popular with families throughout the summer. Particularly at Tokoname Rinku Beach, an artificial beach built on the other shore of Centrair, you can watch airplanes take off and land from Chubu Centrair International Airport while fishing, walking, barbecuing, and swimming.

    Chubu Centrair International Airport

    The Chubu International Airport, located in Tokoname City, connects the Chubu region with other parts of Japan and the rest of the world. Many tourists come to watch the planes take off and land from the observation deck, and the airport has a variety of restaurants and shops selling the best of the Chita Peninsula. Renovated in December 2021, a commercial complex called Flight of Dreams displays the first Boeing 787 aircraft.
