The Seii Taishogun (征夷大将軍 - a military commander), Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, of the early Heian Period prayed for victory in battle before the gods, gobunrei (御分霊 - guarding deities) in various places that are still worshipped today at the 44 shrines of Kinomiyajinja. The large camphor tree, designated as a national natural treasure, has a circumference of about 24 meters, has a sidewalk around the trunk and walking 1 revolution is said to extend the walker's life by 1 year. The powerful presence overwhelms those who look upon it, but it also bestows upon them a sense of security. There are many visitors who wish to stop drinking and smoking. They also sell cute charms for luck in marriage. You can enjoy kogashi manju (こがしまんじゅう - Sweet red bean wrapped in a bun) (1 piece is ¥100) in the resting area on the grounds.
