Hokoji is a head temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism, Hokoji School, and is one of the leading Zen temples in the Tokai region. There are 22 buildings in the temple's large precincts, which are registered as national tangible cultural properties. Visitors can experience zazen, sutra transcribing, and enjoy vegetarian cuisine.
